Established in 1962 in Tokyo , Secom is a world leader in security services. It is the leading security management company in Asia with more than $6 Billion in revenues for the year 2007. Secom has offices in 12 countries worldwide with more than 40,000 employees combined. Recently, Secom expanded its operations into fields other than security such as medical and educational services.

Established in 1986, ISL is responsible both for practical, application oriented research which can be used in the field by Secom (Core Technology Division) as well as cutting-edge research focused on building the technology infrastructure for future products and applications in any of the fields Secom operates in (Advanced Research Division).

Current research in ISL encompasses a number of themes including: Networking, ubiquitous sensors, biometrics, behavior recognition, image processing, medical IT, assistive technology, robotics, and scheduling among others.
